She can't believe she's making inane small talk with Jack, who disappeared almost a year ago, when he's standing right there, flesh and blood, walking beside her and acting like showing up somewhere he isn't supposed to be isn't a big deal because it's the kind of thing that happens on a regular basis when you do what they do (did) for a living. The surprise of seeing him is such a shock that she doesn't know what to do or say, so she doesn't say much during the short walk to her building or the short trip in the elevator to the 12th floor.
